December Newsletter clipart

From The Principal,
Greetings Scott Teays families! I hope this newsletter finds you well.  Things are in full holiday mode for us with lots of fun and exciting things happening at Scott Teays.  Upon arrival each day last week, students were eager to learn the location of Scotty the Elf.  Scotty has been quite entertaining already this holiday season! This week our Santa Shop will be in full swing, and I would like to thank those who have signed up to help make it a wonderful week of shopping for our students.  We appreciate all that our volunteers do to help provide special opportunities for our students to enjoy.

This will be our last newsletter of the year, so I would like to take a moment to wish each of you a joyous holiday season and a Happy New Year!  We at Scott Teays are looking forward to all the wonderful things 2024 promises to offer our students and school!

~Mrs. Isaacs

Inclement Weather/School Closings
We are approaching that time of the year....In the event of a school delay, school closing, or early departure, the School Messenger calling system will be activated.  PLEASE do not call the school to ask about school closings.  Our lines need to be kept open for emergencies.  You will receive a personal call and/or text from School Messenger if we have ANY change of plans.  Please be sure that the office has your most recent phone number on file and add PCS number 304-586-0500 to your contact list. Also, you can download the PCS Connect App for up-to-date information regarding closings and delays.
In the event of an early departure, teachers will follow the emergency plan that you gave them at the beginning of the school year.  If you no longer remember what that is, please contact your child’s teacher.  Please note:  in the event of an early departure, the YMCA after school program is NOT open.

Christmas in the Classroom
Just a reminder that our Christmas parties at STE are student/teacher only.  Our teachers enjoy this special time to relax and share in the season with their class.  Our next school-wide party will be Easter.

‘Tis The Season

We’ve entered the season of colds, flu, viruses and bugs!  Please keep your child home if they have thrown up or had a fever of 100 or higher during the past 24 hours.  Sending your child to school when they aren't completely well only helps spread the illness to others.  Please be sure your child returns with either a parent or doctor note.

Grades in Schoology
All parents of students in grades 1-5 have access to their students grades in Schoology. If you are not regularly monitoring your child’s grades in Schoology, now is a great time to start.  If you need help getting started, please check with your child’s teacher or call the office.

Tips for Success With Technology Usage

American Academy of Pediatrics has established recommendations for children’s media use. The current recommendations advise:
• For children under 18 months, avoid screen-based media except video chatting.
• For children 18 months to 24 months, parents should choose high-quality programming and watch with their children.
• For children 2 to 5, limit screen time to one hour per day of high-quality programming.
• For children 6 and up, establish consistent limits on the time spent using media and the types of media.

Social Media Usage
• Be cautious about children under 13 years old using social media. Most platforms set 13 as the minimum age to sign up.
• Set guidelines for acceptable apps and monitor your child’s device regularly to ensure safety.
